We just missed International Pi Day, which was 3/14 for all you non-eggheads. That day felt like it went on forever. (That’s a pi joke for you eggheads). Actually, it did. This panel was supposed to go out at 3:14 that day, but I was just coming out of my drubbing by Slothrop & feeling a little punch drunk & too busy the rest of the day failing to come up w an epic one-liner to drop on my way out the door. But what a difference a week makes. Now the word’s out that the St. Paddy’s Day caption was changed at the 11th hour on account of potential legal liabilities, & instead of another dressing down for exceeding my authority, I got a string of smiley face texts on the Committee thread. I can’t tell their cell numbers apart and I don’t have them logged into my Contacts because they come & go so fast, but 5 of the 9 weighed in. There was some feedback on the caption itself, which wasn’t entirely positive, but mostly smiley faces, so all in all it was better than getting deposed in a copyright lawsuit. And then the traffic + engagement numbers came in on No. 168, along with the HK and Mexico City deals kicking in, & suddenly I’m a hero this week. So anyway, this is late, but happy belated International Pi Day. It’s not actually a Pi joke, but it’s in the neighborhood, and if you’re here, you’re in the demo either way. And unlike St. Patrick’s Day, it’s not exactly a crowded field for Pi Day jokes, so the Intellectual Property Violation Detection System says we are good to go w this one. We’ll call it semi-canon, No 3.14159.... as its brought to us by Artie’s friend Rusty, who submitted the idea. Artie drew it (slide for sketch), Inky inked it, and I hit “Send” at 3:14 Hawaii-Aleutian Time on 3/20, which is both Spring Equinox & National Ravioli Day in the US. Seriously, look it up. -Ed.
