Slothrop scheduled a bagels & orange juice party in the kitchenette this morning to celebrate the end of Hanelore’s internship. There was champagne for the juice and I think Krenshaw went off-script in his toast bc he offered Hanelore the full-time role as Assoc Social Media Marketing Mgr, reporting to me. I about spit out my mimosa. No one bothered to tell me? On the one hand, it’s sort of flattering, I guess. I’ve never managed anyone before. But I’ve never really wanted to, either. On the other hand, Krenshaw’s been referring to me now as Director of Marketing, which isn’t a role that existed before & makes me wonder if I’ve been promoted again. It’s hard to say and I don’t want to ask. This place is so lacking in process, sometimes all you can do is shake your head & just roll with it & think about the insurance benefits, etc which have been top notch since the SynrSys acquisition. Not that Marv ran a lower-notch operation, it was just a family business, is all. Speaking of insurance, Artie’s tendencies lately have been in 2 directions: jokes about his never-ending medical issues and jokes about anthropomorphic animals/objects with absurdly long captions. Here, w #100, we had a little of both, but the longer caption ideas lost out. (This one came out along with a bunch of Artie’s prostate jokes that culminated in the Dr. McManus panel, so there may’ve been a caption mix-up.) I’m posting again bc I’ve re run the entire canon through S-MCSS2 and it’s the last significant change relative to the old model results. It didn’t result in a caption change but it’s notable as the #1 swing in total score, going from a barely passing 7.2 to a nearly perfect 22.9 (a record high). It’s suspicious bc on the surface it feels like about a 15.5 to me. So my feeling is the jury’s still out on the algorithm changes. I guess I’ll talk to Hanelore about that in our first 1:1. Artie’s back w a bunch of new sketches, so it looks like a full week ahead. It’s not off to a very productive start though, bc the party in the kitchenettte went on until the champagne ran out. I think Jenny from ad sales finished one of the bottles herself. We haven’t seen her since this morning. -Ed.
